There are two basic ways to build Act 48 items within Comply.  You can build an Act 48 item for an event that already happened or build one in advance of the event (e.g., inservice, professional development session, etc.).

Option 1 - Submission of Previously Earned Act 48 Hours

This tutorial is designed to show Act 48 Approvers how to build an Act 48 item for an event that happened in the past and how to automatically submit hours to PERMS.  If you typically submit Act 48 hours after you receive the sign-in sheet, this option would be most appropriate for you.

Option 2 - Building an Act 48 Item in Advance of an Event

This tutorial is designed to show Act 48 Approvers how to build an Act 48 item for an event that will happen in the future.  Typically, the reason for building an item in advance is to gather feedback from participants and to print a roster sign in sheet.

Important Notes:

  • Prior to building Act 48 items and submitting hours to PERMS, it is highly recommended that you review/complete the following:
    • Add PPID Numbers - Comply allows you to add PPID numbers so that Act 48 hours can be successfully submitted to PERMS.  PPID numbers are typically added in bulk during the initial onboarding of users process.  To learn more about how to add PPID numbers in bulk or manually, see the FAQ support article called How do I add PPID numbers to user profiles?
    • Indicate Paraeducators - Comply allows your district to track hours for Paraeducators.  However, for the system to track those hours, paraeducators need to be marked as such.  To learn more, see the FAQ support article called How do I track Paraeducator hours?
    • Exclude Users from Act 48 Submission - Comply allows your district to exclude hours from being submitted to PERMS for certain users.  If a user is not a certified educator with a PPID number and not a Paraeducator, you should mark them as being excluded from Act 48 Submissions to avoid submission errors.  To learn more, see the FAQ support article called How do I exclude users from Act 48 submissions?
